What is your service area?I provide services in Missouri in the Northland of Kansas City including Gladstone, Parkville, Riverside, Claycomo, and Liberty. Due to the location of my home office, some areas are beyond my immediate service area. A $5 service fee is added to each visit in those cases. Don't see your location? Contact me to see if I can service your area!
-
What is your payment policy?Clients will receive an invoice through their Client Portal and can pay via credit/debit card online, Venmo, or leave cash on the first visit. Since invoices are due 3 days before your departure, we ask that you let us know which payment method you are using.
-
What is your cancelation policy? For Dog Walking and Drop-in Visits, it is required that you give notify us of cancelation at least 2 hrs prior to your service. If no cancellation notification is given/given after that 2 hour window, the client will be charged for that walk/visit. For Pet Sitting you are required to give us 7 day notice, otherwise you are required to pay in full.

What kinds of pets do you care for?I can provide care for all sorts of animals! While the large majority of my experience is with dogs, horses, and guinea pigs, I also have working experience with cats, birds, reptiles, and other critters! Please contact me so we can discuss the type of service your pets will need.

Do you care for pets with aggression issues? This will depend on the severity of the aggression issues. If the pet has aggressively bit someone in the past then no, I cannot provide service. In the New Client Questionnaire you will be asked about any behavioral issues. If your pet does have issues that I have questions about I will reach out to you to discuss them further.
-
Do I have to give you a key to my house?Because an electronic door lock or batteries in a garage door keypad or remote can malfunction an additional way of getting into your house is recommended. We highly recommend clients use a lockbox or hide their key in a disclosed location given only to us. Note: Pet Care with Emma will not be held responsible for keys that a client asks to keep on file.
-
Are you able to administer medication?Yes! I am happy to administer medications!
-
What vaccinations/treatments are required for my pet?We require an up-to-date Rabies vaccination. If your vet deems it unnecessary to vaccinate your pup/cat due to their age, then a notification from the vet's office is required. We strongly recommend having your dog vaccinated against Canine parvovirus and Distemper as well as Bordatella bronchiseptica. In terms of fleas/ticks, we recommend keeping your dogs on a prevention for parasites such as heartworms, fleas and ticks. We require all pets to be parasite-free as that situation can be easily spread to our other clients' homes. If we happen to visit a home with fleas, the Client will be responsible for reimbursing Pet Care by Emma for any materials purchased to handle the problem in their absence.

What happens if a pet becomes ill and the client is out of town or unable to leave work?If I suspect that something is urgently wrong with a pet, I will notify the client first. If they are unavailable then I will reach out to the emergency contact I have on file. If the client or emergency contact believes the veterinarian should see the pet, I will transport him to the veterinarian’s office for examination and treatment. In the event I cannot reach the client or the emergency contact, I will decide if the situation is urgent enough to warrant a vet visit. I encourage our clients to put Pet Care by Emma on file at their vet's office so that we do not have difficulty seeking medical care in the case of an emergency.

What equipment do you use to walk my dog?If you have equipment that your dog is familiar with and walks well on, then I will use that as long as I know how to use it. However, I reserve the right to change equipment if I feel there is a chance that your pet is not properly secure or is at risk of hurting themselves. My choice of equipment is martingale collars and front buckle harnesses. Retractable leashes will only be used for dogs under 15 pounds. Otherwise, standard leashes will be used for as a safety measure because they provide much more control in urgent scenarios where I need to quickly adjust a dog's access to something or someone undesirable.
